It has always bugged me a bit that the hammer spur on minis sticks up very high. I think a lower-profile hammer would make the guns easier to draw and safer to carry.

If you could redesign the hammer, what would it look like?

it wont work if you use the oversized rosewood grips.the hammer just does clear the way it is now.

plus a lower profile hammer increases risk of loosing control when trying to safely lower hammer into cylinder notches.

I think I kind of understand what you mean though: the tall ruger vaquero hammer vs. the lower profile ruger montado version. I think the montado hammer is wider and heavily serrated to aid in control.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking, Silvershooter. Simply bobbing the existing hammer wouldn't be the best approach. It really would take a full redesign.

The existing hammer does provide great control. I just don't like its potential to snag on clothing. You can train to prevent that from happening on a draw, but that just feels like working around a design flaw.

I agree with the above statements, I think the hammer is big and unsightly, but also necessary for safe operation
