A lighter. Dang. You sure know you're a redneck when you try to light your cigarette with a real gun. Who leaves a loaded NAA lying around anyways? |

I love the writer " First, don't pickup a gun-looking gun in the middle of a trailerpark. Second, if you have to pick it up don't pull the freaking trigger without checking if it's a real gun. Third, if you have to pull the trigger make sure no children—especially your own—are around. And fourth, try to always use your brain whenever a gun is involved." |

"Derringers are among the smallest, potentially deadly handguns made." Huh? |

She would have had to cock the hammer first. It says the first time she pulled the trigger nothing happened, if she found the gun pre-cocked the first pull would have lowered the hammer. Stupid woman who cocks a found/unknown gun and then pulls the trigger should not be allowed to operate a multi-ton motorvehicle or care for children. The revolver is being unjustly restrained by those zipties; free the innocent mini!!!! |

Sadly, this will probably start a whole new movement to ban small 'derringer type guns'. That's how it works with the idiot politicians in my area. They just wait for stuff like this and then they pounce. I can just see our sen. little Dicky Durban frothing at the mouth now. Andy |

The fact the mother was 30 the daughter 12 and they were talking in front of the mobile home with no mention of Dad provides a lot of clues to how this happened. "You can't fix stupid" might be the ultimate cliche, but somehow sums it up rather well. If she hadn't tried to light a cigarette with the Mini, with a loaded gun lying around in this environment how long would it have been until something else would have happened? I forsee compulsory engraving on the barrels of all guns - "this is not a cigarette lighter" on the horizon |

This story is a tale of stupidity - but how about the gun owner? I would guess the gun was stolen and discarded by the thief. I would hate to learn that someone was carrying insecurely and just lost it. |

Just goes to show you that nothing is fool proof. In other words, nothing can be safe from fools. I wonder if she has any tattoos attesting to that fact? Nah!!! Top Dog |

I told the guys in the office about this ordeal and we reconstructed the crime scene...o.k. the bullet bounced of the ground and struck the girl, when normal people light a cigarette they usually keep the lighter upright so that the flame travels upward and on to the cigarette...well why would someone be angling the lighter in a way where a bullet can bounce and strike a kid in the upper arm (prolly a 45degree angle)? Well hold a pen (or cigarette lighter) and hold it in a 45 downward, now take your other hand and hold it to your mouth as if you were holding a cigarette....this was no cigarette LOL. |
