Had the Moose ruffed out but finally finished it. Almost full bark, never done that before, moose was totally solid and hard. White took a good shine. Hard to go back to a birds head from a boot so used to the boot. Don't see that much moose being used for grips, don't know why it is very solid and tuff as nails.

I get my escutcheons from two places these came from http://vintagegungrips.net/es.html There were #37. They are machines brass and really look nice, They are 1/4" hole on the escutcheons. For smaller steel escutcheons I buy them from NAA directly. The have two screw length and I have used both. I could never understand why a some people put a lot of time into making a grip and then put a cheap screw in it. Good escutcheons are worth the money. Steve |

I am liking the Elk more and more, though it is not quite as rock hard as the sambar and mastodon. Has a great "feel" and the colors" brown and stark white work well, veining finer than sambar but not as deep. Cheaper and availability is nice as well. |
