I think some pics have been leaked of the "Shield" ...poly guns abound. Has anyone seen them?

Isn't a shield a contraceptive device?

Thanks for the link. I for one like the CZ 85 Combat or some such model as that. Perhaps a Dan Wesson....LOL.

I have a couple of S&W .22 autos that I LOVE. I don't have much experience with their larger calibers.

Well, that is not as bad as I expected. If you could get it without the added on grip crap at the bottom that makes it too big to be a compact.

I guess it COULD be a contraceptive, if used to keep your attacker from reproducing any more like him..................

thanks for posting that, but I am a snub nose revolver guy even though I see the niche for the pocket auto pistol.

i dont get the extensions to the grip that you see put on subcompact firearms. to me it defeats the purpose of going as small as possible in the first place.

Exactly! If you need the full size grip, get the full size gun.

I have one of Smiths first poly attempts in the Sigma. Piece-o-crap. But I really love my Smith 1911. I'm sure they have shaken most of the early bugs. Good on-em for jumping on the plastic wagon. ;)

Did you hear that Sandy was working on a poly magnum? "Covert Plastic" Well you didn't hear it from me! Still looking for a code name because NAACP is taken.

Not if Obama has anything to say about it. Secret governement tests have concluded white polymer to be inferior.

Oh, man! I actually have Kel-Tec P32 in white polymer. Actually, the factory called it Ivory. They no longer make it. Not sure why.

I haven't been a fan on smith autos since their third generations disappeared. I also refuse to buy any of their revolvers that have the internal lock. Just a peev of mine. My dream stub nose would be a 638 without the lock, i wish.

I'm not sure that I know what the S&W internal lock is. Anyone explain? Is it something like Taurus hammer lock? Or something that requires an action with every use? Of all my guns, I have no Smith revolvers.

On the left side of the frame, just above the cylinder latch is a key hole and new guns come with a couple of keys that look very much like handcuff keys. On some revolvers the shape of the cylinder latch requires you to push it forward to insert the key, on others it is reachable without that. Turning the key about a quarter turn counterclockwise causes a little flag called the lock arm to pop up beside the hammer. It has the word "locked" plainly visible. Mechanically the lock is very simple and consists of four stamped parts and two springs.

Engaging the lock involves moving a small flat piece of steel called the "lock cam" by turning the key, which raises the lock arm into the visible position. There is a small protrusion on the lock cam which engages a slot in the hammer to lock it. The springs help with the raising and lowering of the flag. Even though the lock engages the hammer it does not affect trigger pull when not engaged. There is a clearance cut on the side of the hammer where the lock can ride without interference.

Ah! Thank you much for the detail. Sounds like just more to go wrong on a simple reliable weapon. Have they actually caused anyone trouble, or just an annoyance?

Really sad part is all m&p semi's have a lock also, in the beavertail area on left side. Can be seen in the pic in the link above. The only new smith I own is a 642 with no lock. I hate the lock for the principle and the look. I'll stick with my stellar Kahr Cm9 for time being. I do like that Springfield armory decided to release their new single stack xds in 45acp first, I'll take a look at it when I see one.

Jupiter,

The M&P 9MM that I owned had zero safeties and no lock...I think the lock and safeties are an option.

BTW The one M&P that I owned was 100% reliable (prolly around 1500rounds) and very accurate could be a fluke though!

The lock you are referring to in the above link looks like a roll pin to me but I might be wrong
