I don't think that is too surprising, while the target of his remarks is the epitome of the mentality I cannot abide, Limbaugh went totally outside of what was acceptable to say publicly and in doing so destroyed the opportunity to bring forward points and information that would have derailed her credibility totally, like the true cost and availability of birth control pills. Now he's on the backfoot and she and her supporters are getting a lot of undeserved attention and publicity - he scored a real own goal on this one and the effect of his comments about what was really a non issue have now spun out of control and given the liberals an opportunity to tar all conservatives/republicans with the same brush of untruth. | ||

I've never really listened to Rush Limbaugh. I always thought he was kind of crazy. While he probably went too far this time, that's his right under the 1st Amendment. The hipocritical media that is so "offended" (it's just for show, not real) is the real problem, since this "offense" is not universally recognized with other groups. And, Obama has no problem keeping Maher's one million dollars, but he calls to offer his support to the "victim" of Rush's comments--that shows it's just political and not real. The American people, if they were smart, would see that; I'm not sure that they are. | ||

I have bought from Rush's sponsors; at least partially because they WERE his sponsors. One of them was sending me almost daily advertisments by e-mail, that I had given consent. They are one that has dropped him (Pro Flowers) and the last one I got, I discontinued the e-mail ads, and in their "comments" section on their site, wrote an e-mail telling them that I was dropping them because they had dropped Rush and would buy elsewhere. I was polite and said they have the right to advertise with who they wish, but I have the right to BUY from who I wish. I got a nice e-mail back thanking me for my comments and saying they hoped I would return some time in the future. I am sure it was an automated response, but I am betting that someone reads the incoming mail. | ||

Collector, I agree on the hypocritical media, but as it's so predictable there is no need to put your head in the noose. The problem here was that Ms Fluke was putting forward a false and downright untrue argument with the liberals misrepresenting who she was and he had a great opportunity to bring all of that out, but instead resorted to using words that were never going to work. One thing I've learned with women, is not to get into a confrontation that gets ugly with them, no matter how obnoxious they are, and some really are, you can never win because regardless of the right or wrong of your argument, you at best end up looking like a bully as they turn the waterworks on. That's pretty much what happened here, she has ended up looking like a victim even though initially she was attempting to create victims of her lies. | ||

The process is not ideal. An ad-hominem attack is considered a logical fallacy for a reason. However this issue is not nearly as one-sided as it is made out to be. The political process in America today has resorted to this type of personal mud tossing rather than any substantial discussion. Anyone who has any sense at all should be able to see that. Do not step into the pig pen if you do not want to get muddy. Do I think what Rush did was right? Not at all. Do I think that this turning the issue about what Rush said rather than the abuse of power by our executive branch and ignorance of the Constitution is right? No. What Rush said is irrelevant to the discussion we should be having. However its fun for high school style drama and as such plays well in the media and in politics today. I would expect, if I stated my views on a national level and made myself a media focal point on any issue that I would be attacked (frankly I would be attacked by both the right and the left). I would not be surprised by it nor would I expect those attacks to be a national news item. | ||

Louiethelump is getting downright hilarious when he believes the greatest insult that he can pay a fellow forum member is to call him a "liberal".....louie is such a stand-up and exemplary model of the perfect "conservative" citizen he honestly has started to believe he is the true voice of the political gods and only HIS opinion has any significance to anyone. Louie likes to hypothesize on my life's direction and politics, even on how much I pay in taxes....he has made a stab at it several times recently (as recent as in THIS thread). Fair enough now for me to reveal my opinion of Louie. I imagine him both physically and mentally a true twin to his idol Rush Limbaugh, the perfect extremist right wing-nut who is so much better than a lowly "liberal" (personally, I dislike extremists on either end of this spectrum). I suspect that most of his working (lol) career was spent with his big fat ass perched on a stool in the neighborhood donut shop while drawing a tax-paid salary that requires minimal physical and mental exertion. Louie is so mentally challenged that he thinks it is cool to make fun of my "lawn service". In reality I did start my business with a simple lawn-mowing service.....but it has grown CONSIDERABLY over the years. At first, expansion was mainly to keep year-round work for my people: tree service, snow removal, and two full service nurseries in adjacent locations. Next was a commercial excavation service; we are now able to grade almost any commercial site to an owner's specs, do desired landscaping, and even maintain the property grounds to commercial standards for years to come. I grew up on the streets in a very rough area (not bragging, not complaining). A "group" of friends was required for any outdoors recreation; a loner either spent all of his time indoors or joined one of the groups. As crudely organized as my group of friends was, we had ethics that we adhered to.....never would we call a sister, mother, other relative a prostitute or slut. The best scenario for such a statement was a severe beating.... occasionally worse. Thus such a statement from limbaugh proves his ignorance and also his privileged upbringing. I could agree with you all the time and then we would both be wrong all the time. Your politics are so far right you can't see the center. You cry about the liberals and their evil (on many things I agree with you) while you work part time at a hospital as a retired officer (thank you for your service if you did INDEED serve as an officer as long as you say you did, it is a hard job I know that.) Meantime SOME of the rest of us are trying to get ahead in the world. I work a full time job run a part time business that is growing daily (have you looked at my webpage lately?) I am in negotiations with lenders (good luck with that btw!) And other investors to get the retail wing of that business going. I have another small business coming together with some of my family that promises a large distribution of a popular product (at this time that is all I am allowed to say about it). So it doesn't surprise any of us that are still out here in the REAL WORLD which is a loooonnnngnggggg ways away from semi retired, that you have lots of time to listen to Rush Limbaugh everyday and worship his ideals and credos. You can go ahead and keep doing that and complaing about how the America you know is gone and the the world is over etc etc etc. Meantime the rest of us will continue to work 60 - 80 hour weeks and not have time to listen to Rush Limabaugh or most days even turn on a tv because at 11 O'Clock at night we still have two hours of work to do for the day. This forum is about the only place that gets any of my spare time and that only because it is internet based and therefore portable. I can look at it from my phone or laptop while I am working on other things. SO go ahead call me a liberal or any other thing you want to that you "think" is an insult it doesn't bother me. I am used to it, every extreme rightist I know calls me a liberal, and every extreme leftist I know calls me a Fascist it's no sweat. I'll just keep working everyday to pay your social security and retirement (of which I will see nothing) and keep not complaining about it because I understand that their are a whole bunch of folks out there that need that money worse than I do. I'll keep working on bringing real business and real revenues into places that need them and I'll keep paying my taxes (which by the way went up under Bush and down under Obama not that expect that to last mind you!) The rest of us out here will continue to work and vote for the things that we think will make the country better the best way we know how. And you guys you just sit and listen to Rush kick and scream and burn all your spare time on internet gun forums bashing at anybody who doesn't agree with you on any stupid little topic that comes up as you have nothing better to do. Really that's fine man we don't mind. Never claimed to work part time. You did not pay my pension, and neither did any other tax payer. My pension is a private pension, funded by the people in the pension with deductions from their pay, and then invested to make a profit in the businesses of THIS wonderful country, and the pensions paid from the well managed proceeds of those investments. I don't draw Social Security or any other government benefits and never have. I WILL draw SS if I live long enough to get to that age, and if it still exists in the presence of so many politicians stealing from the fund. I don't listen to Rush except for the 35 minute drive TO work, and I get home from work at midnight. I wish you well in your business ventures. I don't have the desire or drive to worship money enough to go after it that way. You are TRULY in the right place, and as soon as it becomes Mexifornia and we get the wall up along your eastern border all will be well. " I really am surprised by how many people think that is a measure of conservatism vs liberalism. We are in debt. A LOT. Under a conservative administration it should be no surprise that EVERYONES taxes rise in an attempt to pay off that debt while still paying for the social welfare programs already in place. I don't recall Bush cutting into these welfare systems at all. If a balanced budget or a debt ceiling are of no concern to you than a liberal administration can easily enough lower your taxes while offering you more and more social welfare programs. Apparently it is not fashionable in that world to worry about tomorrow or what is going to happen when the bills ultimately become due | ||

I thought a progressive tax code was a bastion of the left. We have one. The tax code, as it exists now, is ridiculous.
