I have two .32 ACP Guardians. One as issued & one melted. Neither would go cheap but it is the only way to get one in the People's Demokratik Republik & I only need one of them. I live in Riverside County. |

Theysay I have one of those in .380 preban. One of the coolest toys I own when around gun folks and at the range. Also a daily carry. I would like a melted .32 but am willing to bet that you (as I would) will want to much lol. You would have to take my Guardian from my cold dead hands.... |

Heyjoe ~ That's a great idea! I think in fact that I will do that someday. I have been waiting for Louie to send me the address as I heard he has a spare room down there and wouldn't mind if I stayed with him for a bit while I got the move worked out and got myself situated. I just KNOW that we would have some great times together!! |

We WOULD have a great time! I have NO DOUBT! Unfortunately, the only spare room is my shed, and it is well occupied by large palmetto bugs that may throw you out....... Doug: A melted gun is one that someone has rounded the sharp edges and corners to make it more comfy to pocket carry. They often remove the sights as well. Louie |

Louie ~ I am not sure I want to take it up with the palmetto bugs. I have heard about your mosquitoes to so the shed is a bit scary.. If something opens up in the house or in the doghouse with the Chow let me know! And thank you for answering the melt question for me you'll see in my other post that I was a little tied up this weekend! |

So, what's "California pre-ban"? Is it legal if the gun is old enough, or must it have been in California when the ban was passed, or what? |

Mndoug: Meltdown-http://www.northamericanarms.com/accessories/g-accessories/guardian-cc/custom-guardian-finishes.html Naa collector: Pre-ban may mean guns possessed before Guardians went off the approved list. It could also refer to guns without the Integral Locking System that I seem to recall that NAA tried to get Kaliforia to accept. |

Yes Kali excepted the first Guardians with the ILS in them. Pre-ban is stuff that was here before it was NOT on the approved list or before the approved list was a list. For instance the short I just bought is from the late '70's and has been laying in a safe since new. It is and has always been here therefore it is legal here. Wanna hear a good one though? It can be purchased here and transferred here but it CANNOT be shipped within the state. SOOOOO I HAVE to drive to where it is twice to do the transfer lololololol. |

Chops ~ LOL Integral locking system but I like Instrument Landing System better so lets go with that! I Have been going to disassemble mine and see if I could remove the ILS but frankly I am somewhat afraid to do that lol. |

Heyjoe ~ That I do not know. In the instance of the .22 short from NAA it has never been on the list so I guess they could run the serial number and see when it was made. Also the gun can come into the state legally if you owned it before you moved here. ANY gun can come into Kali legally if you owned it before you moved here. They say you are supposed to reg them within 6 months of arrival but we have so much transient work out here that they don't actually enforce that law. I think for the most part they just except that if it is here in the state it can be sold and transferred and is legal. Doesn't really matter if its registered or not UNLESS you are carrying concealed. IF you are with a permit or not you had BETTER be DAMN SURE that the gun is registered and its registered to YOU. If it isn't and somebody finds out you ARE going to have a problem. Funny thing about kali is that it's a felony to carry a police baton if you are not a LEO BUT it is a misdemeanor (doesn't even come with a fine) to carry a handgun loaded concealed.....weird rules ehh? |

I doubt that they try although it would be against the law for the seller to possess it. As a buyer you would probably be safe if they couldn't prove you knew it was not legally held. You can only buy them from private parties not from dealers but they have to be transferred by a dealer who holds them for the ten day waiting period. They can be put on consignment with a dealer but he never takes ownership of them. There is an even bigger loophole. Police officers are allowed to buy pistols not on the list & they are then allowed to sell them so it is possible to buy new guns that are not on the list. |

Yes LEO's can buy whatever they want to legally. It is not however all that easy for them to buy and resell said guns. Ask the Sac county sheriff's about it.... |

This has been going on for as long as the list has existed. It looks as though someone has finally noticed. Whenever you express an interest in a gun you can't have ALL the dealers ask you if you have a friend in law enforcement. It seems too much like a straw purchase to me & I suspect they may start to crack down especially when the cop does too many of them or resells too quickly. |

Yep and Yep there are a couple of county boys up here that may do a little jail time over this deal we will have to wait and see how it pans out. In the end I don't think it will be anything serious this time as the have not technically broken any laws. But I do expect to see some more BS legislation because of it. |

So, it must have physically been owned IN California before the ban. How on eath would you ever prove that? |

I suspect it would be the other way around. They would have to prove it wasn't. There are the other two exceptions. Someone moving to Kalifornia & bringing it in & the LEO exception. So even the date of manufacture would not be proof. It's much the same with magazines. I asked the Dept of Justice in an E-mail if bringing a magazine back to Kalifornia after visiting Nevada or Arizona would be legal & they said it would. So you could buy one there & bring it home & unless they could prove what you did you would be okay. (Don't buy one they can prove was made after the date.) They have been known to follow cars with Kalifornia plates from gunstores near the border after watching people buying magazines. |
